The famous and beloved Arabian fairy tales come to life via circus arts courtesy of Alternacirque, Columbia’s homegrown professional circus company. Alternacirque was very fortunate to have renowned underground circus director and performer Armitage Shanks on board to direct this sometimes beautiful, sometimes loony tunes full-length show of intrigue, fantastical creatures, and strong women characters. Tales popular with Western audiences, including the plight of Scheherezad, the Voyages of Sinbad, and Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves, are told along with a few more obscure ones, like The Talking Bird, and the Tale of Janshah. This show is 100% family friendly.
1001 Arabian Nights debuted in January as a part of the 5th Annual Festival of Doom to sold out crowds. The show has expanded to include new talent, and will incorporate live fire performance this go-round. Housed in the spacious Earlewood Park Amphitheatre on North Main Street, we encourage you to bring picnic blankets and make yourself at home. The show lasts 90 minutes with one 20-minute intermission.

Join us as Earlewood Tubes the Saluda!
It will be a fun and relaxing afternoon on the river with friends and neighbors! We did this last summer and everyone had a blast!
We’re tubing with the Palmetto Outdoor Center. Cost is $20/person/tube and comes with a deluxe tube (mesh bottom) and a life jacket.
PLEASE MEET BY 2:45 to PAY CASH or CHECK ONLY and get organized at the Riverwalk.
Bring water and sunscreen. Sandals will also protect your feet (you might lose flip flops).
We’ll meet in the parking lot at the Cayce Riverwalk to pay for tubes at their stand. Then they’ll shuttle us up to the zoo and we’ll tube down the river back to the Riverwalk to return our tubes. It’s about a 3 hour trip, depending on the river.
You can bring a small cooler with “beverages” if you are old enough (ahem) and reasonably discreet. And if you litter, our President be forced to publicly humiliate you on the river.
More questions about the trip, what to bring, what the “rules” are? Here you go: http://palmettooutdoor.com/frequently-asked-questions-about-saluda-congaree-broad-river-outdoor-activities
And non-Earlewood residents may join us as well!
RSVP on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/events/315644618570054/) or email Rebecca Haynes at president@earlewood.org.
The Amphitheater Events Committee has set this up as the first as the first event of our new series of concerts and activities at the beautiful Earlewood Park amphitheater. “Family Picnic in the Park” will be the theme of our first gathering. A concert featuring local band, Two For the Road and Others, will be the centerpiece of the entertainment.
Update 11/1/2015 – Due to the current weather situation we have decided to postpone today’s event to a later date. We will definitely keep you posted as we look into holding this on another day.
The Amphitheater Events Committee is planning the second event of our new series of concerts and activities at the beautiful Earlewood Park amphitheater. Mark your calendar and check back for additional details.
